Mugenkyo Onsen Tsurunoya (Kyoto)

Mugenkyo Onsen Tsurunoya in Kyoto is exactly what you expect for a hidden Onsen!

The building is a traditional wooden architecture. It is worthy to see the unique bath tub, which is cylindrical and rare in Japan.

The hot spring is Carbonated water and does not have any smell. It is also recommended to people who does not like the smell of Hot spring.

To make the water hot, they use stone stove, which makes you very warm when you get to Onsen with the far infrared ray from the natural stone and carbonated water.

The food you have to try at Mugenkyo Onsen Tsurunoya is hot pots!

Kiji(pheasant) hot pots, Botan hot pot(meat of bore), duck hot pot, and Carpio hot pot… they are all delicious but very rare!

Especially Kiji hot pot is recommended. Pheasant meat is very rare but it has a distinctive taste from chicken. It matches with the soup, which is sweet soy taste.

Senzin Buro (Wakayama)

Senzin Buro is the largest outdoor bath in japan!

It is huge! And It is free!!

Senzin buro in Wakayama seems that 1000 people (Sen,1000 and jin, people) can take a bath at the same time!

This Onsen is made by stopping the flow of the river. The hot water is coming from the bottom of the river.

This is very rare in Japan. Also it is free, then we have to go!

Another thing that makes this Onsen rare is that women and men take the same bath. Yes, you have to wear swim wear unlike the other Onsens in Japan, which the bath is separated for women and men.

In day time you can enjoy the nature around the bath. At night, there is a beautiful view of sky with a lot of stars.

The must try food in this area is Mehari Sushi and the rice bowl with eel.

Mehari sucshi is a large sushi and named so because you have to open your mouth large enough to make other people suprises. Mehari mean “open eyes by a surprise”.

Eels in this area is not raised by people and natural. So there is sometimes you cannot eat it when they could not catch eels.
